A Foggy St. Louis November Morning: Taking the Metrolink to Washington University


The local weather folks had predicted a foggy morning, and boy were they right! I brought along the cheap little Sylvania video camera I received free from Swagbucks to record the very foggy weather here in St. Louis as I commuted to work on campus this morning. First off I parked at the Richmond Heights Metrolink station and started walking to the platform. I could not even see the platform area from my car!

Once I was on the platform I had to pan around to look out at the fog covered nearby synagogue and also down the track. I was hoping to get the train as it appeared out of the fog, but I was not able to capture that. The other people on the platform must have thought I was an insane tourist or something.
Finally I made it to the Skinker Station and started to walk towards the lovely Scott Rudolph Hall on the picturesque Washington University Danforth campus. I grabbed some footage across the parking lot towards the art school and then in front of me as I walked by Whitaker towards Rudolph and Brookings Hall. The fog added a very nice European look to campus!

Not all Frosted Window Films are the same!

We live in an older home with a lot of issues and one of them concerns our back door to our patio from our sunroom. The door has double paned glass on it, but unfortunately the seal has broken so you can see moisture collect inside of it. We decided the easiest way to "remedy" the problem was to cover the window with some "frosted" film so we did not have to see the moisture condensing between the panes. But the question was, what film? There are a bunch of them available so we had to select something to try on the door. The first place we tried was our nearby Lowe's store which had a bunch of Gila brand film. We selected what seemed like the typical adhesive based door sized  film that cost about $25 after tax. We thought it could not be that hard to put up and look nice on our door. So one day my wife ran out and purchased it at Lowe's and we commenced to install it on our door window. St. Louis County School Districts and the Results of Breitenfeld vs. Clayton

It is going to be very interesting to see how everything plays out this fall for all the school districts in St. Louis County following the ruling of Breitenfeld vs. The School District of Clayton . Essentially now anyone with children in the Riverview Gardens or Normandy School Districts can request to have their children attend any other school anywhere else in St. Louis County. This could be a huge mess if a large number of the 10,000 students in the two districts decide to transfer, with funds having to be transferred from the two unaccredited districts to the hosting districts, and then students being shuttled all over the place, also at the expense of those two failing districts. The southern corner of the Normandy district is actually not too far from Clayton too. That would be a steal to be able to purchase an inexpensive home in Normandy and then be able to send your children to Clayton schools , when folks just a block or two away in University City could not. Worst Jigsaw Puzzle Ever!

  During the pandemic I have been doing a number of jigsaw puzzles in my spare time, so my thoughtful wife, Penny, has been finding a number of them for me to put together. Unfortunately, one of her purchases did not turn out so well as they shipped the wrong puzzle, in fact they shipped two identical National Park puzzles that we did not want. After a lengthy dispute, she was able to get her money back, but the company said we could keep both of the undesirable puzzles. Therefore I decided to put one of them together and try it out. One of our faculty members in my department at Washington University teaches a very popular National Parks course so I thought I could at least learn the names of some of the parks. First off this puzzle is made from a very flimsy card stock which is not much thicker than a playing card.
