New Rain/Snow/Sun Free Path from Skinker Metrolink Station to Brookings Hall

Last week the new east end garage opened on Danforth Campus of Washington University in St. Louis which was great for all the people who want to park there. But for those of us who take the Metrolink to and from campus, there is now a wonderful almost fully precipitation free path to get from the Skinker Metrolink Station to Brookings Hall (or Scott Rudolph Hall.) The map above shows the path, but it is not all on the same level so it needs some explanation.

Green Hall Doorway - WashU ID required
The first part is easy, getting from the Metrolink station to the archway of Green Hall. Then you enter the double doors there, but realize you need a WashU ID to enter those doors. Withou a valid ID, you must walk around to Brauer Hall where the center double entry doors are always unlocked. Luckily part of that outdoor path around Brauer Hall is even covered so you would hardly get wet if it were raining.

You then keep walking through Green Hall until you get into Brauer, but stop once you get to the large stairways in the middle of Brauer's large lobby area.

Brauer Stairway to Ryckman Lecture hall
The first tricky part is you must then go down the stairs in Brauer towards the Ryckman Lecture hall (Room 12). But once you get downstairs immediately turn right and go through the large wooden double doors towards Whitaker.

Once through the doors you will find that hallway dead ends past the Nano facilty into a long corridor almost immediately. Turn to the left which leads past the server room (Brauer 005) and then towards the "secret underground tunnel" to Jubel Hall.

Brauer corridor to the Jubel tunnel
I, for one, love secret underground tunnels, especially ones that connect two buildings. This one is especially fun since it is creepily dark until you walk through it and the lights start turning on. You feel like you are on the U.S.S. Enterprise with the lights following you!

The cool and amazing Jubel tunnel
You keep walking through the secret tunnel until you end up in the basement of Jubel Hall.

Then you simply walk through Jubel until you come to the entrance to the East End garage.

Once you are in the garage, you will see the stairs and elevator through the cavernous garage towards the west.

Simply walk along the sidewalk that goes along Jubel and the Schnuck Pavillion as you head towards the stairs and the infamous glass "Willy Wonka" elevator.

Once you emerge at the surface you will find yourself only ~100 feet from either Brookings Hall or Rudolph Hall! You did not have to walk around the bizarre concrete "Tulip Wall" entrance to the garage or try to figure out how to walk from Whitaker to Rudolph! Now you can also meander through the infamous "meadow" of a thousand small plants. Or take a walk down to the "swamp" and hang with the swamp critters. You've made it from the Metrolink station to near Brookings without having to walk through the weather or construction detours. Congratulations!
